Averie | Dallas Photography | Model Test Shoot | Sony a7
The Texas Discover Gardens in downtown Dallas (aka The butterfly house) was a perfect location for a free spirit like Averie. We met up for an early morning portrait shoot and got some amazing photos before the place got packed. It offered a full array of natural beauty and outside landscaped gardens. Averie was not new to modeling, and this made it easy to work with her on this shoot. She danced, and moved and I just worked to keep up with her along the way.
Dallas Photography Session
The overall session was great. I was able to keep in some shadow areas of the tree line and also the indoor butterfly exhibit was very colorful. It was a little more humid than I would have wanted, but it was nothing we could not handle. The butterfly exhibit was calm and well shaded so it gave me the opportunity to shoot wide open and get some great bokeh in my shots.
What I learned on this shoot
I’m used to my model shoots being more posed and simplistic. When working with Averie, I knew I was going to have to move to continuous auto focusing and shooting due to her moving around so much. I learned very quickly about staying in focused areas. Single-shot focus was just not going to cut it. I moved to continuous and found that the Sony A7 kept up pretty well. There were some blurry shots along the way, but it always happens when I move around. I did my best to keep her in frame, and the rest is history.
