Ashley Lazy sunday boudioir shoot

Lazy Sunday Lounging with Ashley

There is nothing like finding a model who can get you excited about seeing all the images on the back of your camera. Ashley is one of those models. So much fun to work with, and great in front of the camera. I had the  chance to do a “Lazy Sunday Shoot” in a small natural light studio in Plano, TX.

Working with Ashley is so simple for me. I used the soft natural light around the room to highlight her beautiful skin. There was a small fan blowing at her hair during most of the shoot so I could get more movement from every shot.

No reflectors were used for this shoot. I was able to pull up the shadows in post production. I mainly use Adobe ACR for color edits, and then final edits in Adobe Photoshop.

My Sony Camera Gear

This shoot was a combination of prime lenses. My main camera was the Sony A7ii, but I did have my old Sony a7 as a back-up just in case. Again, this shoot was all natural light so no other equipment was used in these portraits. Here is a list of the cameras and gear for this shoot in case you are curious.

Concept and Posing

This concept was a continuation of an old theme I love to shoot in studio. My “Lazy Sunday” theme came about a few years ago during my large super shoots. It is very easy to get the model to move and get comfy on small furniture or studios that mimic small bedrooms or studios. I asked Ashley to just keep moving in her small spaces. She pretty much was dancing in place to the music that was playing in the background.

What I learned from this shoot

I love shooting with prime lenses, but I kinda wish I would have had a zoom lens handy. I kept switching the lenses on my main camera, but it would have been easier to just have one single zoom. It’s not a big deal really. I still love the way the photos came out.

Also, I know it was a natural light shoot, but I think next time I would work with a small off-camera flash. I think this would have lightened up the shadows just enough so I didn’t have to bring them out in post.
