Black and White Photography

There is something about how black and white photos help highlight emotions and take away the distractions of color. Don’t get me wrong, I love colored photography. But, I find that I needed to experiment with black and white photography editing and try a new technique on my photography.

TFP Model session with Jolesa

Working with Jolesa has been a great experience. I have worked with her a hand full of times on TFP model shoots, and she is one of my go-to models for experimenting. This session was held at the LovePicLove studios in Deep Ellum. The natural light studio was perfect for creating a moody set.

Editing for black and white photography

Everything from this set was shot in color on my Sony A7 camera. I switched between my Sony 28mm f/2.0 and Sony 55mm f/1.8 lenses. I imported all the images into Adobe ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) and used the LXCN 5H settings from Tribe Archipelago online. I’ve fallen in love with the presets they have available for photographers. I used a preset to help me get started on the photo editing, and used LXCN 5H as the base.

The preset provided a very gritty film look and I am very pleased with the outcome. I am very happy with how this set came out. As I was culling images, I tried to find the best photos that expressed more emotions and less about the background and surrounding areas around the model. I really should start doing this same process for my regular color photography as well
