Comfy studio session with Nikki | Sony a7iii Portraits | Dallas Photographer

It’s always exiting working with new models and working with new camera gear. This was the case when I did this studio boudoir session with model Nikki M and shooting with the new Sony a7iii Mirrorless Camera.

Start with the Model

I met Nikki thru Instagram. I had been following her work for awhile and vice versa. She reached out and asked if I wanted to collab and we set a session date. Nikki has worked with numerous photographers in the DFW area and I heard great things about her.

What better time to try out new gear than with a smart and beautiful subject. Nikki was very patient with me as I was learning to get comfortable with the Sony a7iii. First impressions of the camera was it was very familiar to me. I shoot with the Sony a7ii and Sony a7 currently so this camera was not a huge change for me.

What I loved about the Sony a7iii

I am sure I will be doing a full review of the Sony a7iii, but for now let me tell you the eye auto-focus was amazing. I really enjoyed it and especially the low-light capabilities compared to my Sony a7ii. I shot most of this set with the Sony Zeiss 35mm f1.4. The studio was rather small and comfy so I needed a wide angle to stay close to the subject and still get full body type shots.

What I learned

I paid so much attention to the eye auto-focus feature I was forgetting my basics of composition. It was fun experimenting, but next time I will dial it back and shoot a little slower. It was a greta shoot, and I look forward to working with Nikki again very soon.
