Model test shoots are a chance to stay creative in a world of corporate work. You can get creative and have fun with some really great people. Caitlin is one of those people who I love working with. She is very professional and great at posing. She is also a signed model and I’m very lucky to work with her.
For this shoot, my concept was a simple studio shoot with a lifestyle theme. The brick walls added a nice warm touch to the images. The rest of the session just fell into place.
Shooting with the Sony a7 Mirrorless Camera
My first camera was the Sony a7 and I used it for this shoot. I owned the Sony 85mm F1.4 GMaster lens and rented the Sony 24-70mm F2.8 GMaster just for this shoot. Both performed great for this shoot, and the wide zoom range was perfect for this small studio. I had just enough space with the 85mm but I stayed mostly with the zoom for this shoot.
Sony 85mm f1.4 GMaster
This lens barely comes off my camera. It is tac sharp and hits focus almost all the time. It renders colors in a beautiful way and I really do love this on my camera. the only draw back I have is it is a heavy lens. Shooting for an hour or two is not bad, but try shooting for hours at a time and you will start to feel the difference.
Sony 24-70mm f2.8 GMaster: Initial thoughts
My background has consisted mostly of using prime lenses, so this shoot was a good opportunity to try out a zoom lens for portraits. I have to say I was pretty impressed. The focal range came in handy for the small space, and shooting wider made a large difference.
The photos were sharp, and I only had a few missed shots on the Sony a7. Focusing was quick, and I would love to get this lens very soon for my collection.
I hope you enjoyed this session. Consider checking out some other great gear from Sony.
